The US needs to think about what is important in health care

Here in the United States, thousands of families are struggling just to make the bills. When you have a child with autism, that struggle can become a life or death battle. With health insurance being out of reach for many families or arbitrarily cut off by insurance companies when a child reaches a certain age, many families will find themselves destitute with very few options to see that their children get the help they need.
One of the questions we always get about our son is, "Don't you get help from the State?". I love that one. Yes, our son gets a check from SSI. Does it match the costs of what we spend? Not even close. "Could we work more hours or find a higher paying job?" Maybe... but then the SSI check is reduced by whatever extra money we bring in and all three children risk losing their insurance.
I read this story and I have to give kudos to State Rep. Barbara L'Italien for her efforts to help struggling families in her state. Great Job Mrs. L'Italien. I wish more politicians were like you.
