The Unrecognized Hate Crime

We all know hate crimes are wrong. We wouldn't dream of calling anyone by a racial term or attack their sexuality. Unfortunately, there is a hate crime that is perpetuated on a daily basis that is seldom given a second thought. This hate crime has even found it's way into the realm of international politics, all the way down to the local school playgrounds. This is the innappropriate use of words when trying to criticize another person. You can stand on a school yard and you will likely hear a student call one of their classmates some offensive slang like "retard". You can watch the news and see the French Minister to Europe call a rival politicians politics "Autistic".
As the article in the above link brings out so clearly, these misguided attempts at insults are spreading hate. These words create further abuse towards people who are disabled and a harbored anomosity. It's time to stop this cycle and speak out. What do you think?
