A sad commentary on global politicians views of autism

The link above points to the story reported by the BBC. Apparently, it's still politically correct for a politician to call another politician "autistic" as an insult.
To the French Minister to Europe, Pierre Lellouche:
Please realize that Autism is a disorder that affects millions of families and, while our children may be autistic, this doesn't make them any less intelligent. While they may not have the emotional or social skills of other people, they are gifted children, often with extremely high intelligence levels, even if their brain cannot send the signals they need to express the thoughts. Next time, please stop to think before opening your mouth. My mother always taught me "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". It's good advice and it might benefit your political career as well.
